Mdou Moctar – Funeral For Justice

“Funeral For Justice” by Mdou Moctar is a strong statement of the Tuareg people’s endurance during political crisis in Niger. The album belongs to the work of the band created in a period of confusion and change of the world, and the audience can hear the reflection of the band’s rebellious attitude and their desire to make something in the music. In all of the tracks, there is wonderful guitar playing by Moctar which is coupled with lyrics that playlist the ordeal of his country with a call to action. Songs such as Ya Habibti both perform a rock and traditional music of the Tuareg people which gives the record a quite eulogistic tone. The tempo is tense, that expresses feelings of struggle as well as expectations of the young generation that is burdened with troubles. To all intents and purposes, “Funeral For Justice” is more than just an album: it is a battle cry that compels those who listen to the music to get up off the canvas in order to fight for justice.
