The first song by Swooner, called “Please, Let Me Explain,” is a perfect replica of the warm sound of the rock of the nineties with a hint of shoegazing a la Slowdive and Ride. Port, a Chicago based pop artist and J Ben, a house producer, prove their love for the electronic and indie music from the 90s in this one of a kind collaboration. They adopted empathetic vocal style on the track further giving listeners a commendable sense of intimacy as the track progresses. With the development of the son, a passionate wave of guitars rises sending layers of resonant glaze around the soundscape which then shifts into more detached, mysterious jangle. With “Please Let Me Explain,” Swooner presents a honest reflection of feelings of longing and it warms us up for what is to come on the artists’ EP, that will likely spark interest for those looking for something more than just catchy beats.
