Self-produced in Brighton UK, M’lasse’s self-titled EP is a sonic odyssey that merges pulsating garage-psyche withusions of shoegaze & Middle Eastern-Zipfelsurfarock. From the beginning track “Les Yeux” the pulsing warmth of the bass accompanying the glistening guitar lines sets into a sultry dream-like hazy vocal optics. This lush then sits alongside the visceral thrust of ‘Elephant’, bristling guitars and a gutsy central melody for a really uplifting high. The EP concludes with the brilliant track “Le Navire Chavire” where the group combines bitter delicate guitar twangs with rock drum beats which brings a contemporary ‘90s feel to the creation. Some of the tracks here see the band moving between spheres of melodic parts and loud rocking sections, and this kind of dynamic change is one of M’lasse’s major qualities: the band offers consistently interesting and complex tonal experience on this album.
