Aaron Bernards’ LA-based project hummer is introducing itself with a proper two-remix EP called “Hollow Eyes 0_0”. Lingering around themes of demise and an urge for affection, the track offers a beautiful juxtaposition between dreamy intonations with roaring guitar thrusts together with shoegaze-like distortion and invigorated guitar wails.With the lyrics so soothing while the guitar riffs get hard and rebellious, an early ‘90s alt rock vibe creeps in which drowns the listener in a syrupy haziness. Bernards’ balancing act of crafting brilliant layers of shimmering melodies and simultaneously coupling naked rock and roll ambition is commendable.Something conceived as a one man musical project presently, “Hollow Eyes 0_0” foreshadows the arrival of monster full band formation of hummer. The first track on Fragile, which displays both, sensitivity and aggression feels like an impactful introduction, and sets up expectation for the remaining EP from this Los Angeles-based group.
