Counterweight by Bridge Dog does a pretty job in combining shoegaze and dream-pop elements giving the listeners a heady track with wonderful layers. Hailing from Sydney the band creates sonic world that makes one feel as though they have been abducted by sound. With effected fuzz over gently played guitar, soft vocals, the track can be compared to an extreme Kero Kero Bonito. One thing specially amusing is a change to the vocal melody, which retains the walls of guitar sound but also allows for personal reflection. The guitars fretted here would rise sky high and seem to channel an era of alt-rock nostalgia before easing into a highly satisfying vocal buildup before closing out to a thrilling crescendo. As direct as this is, Counterweight is a clear testament to Bridge Dog’s potential at delivering on artistry, emotional heft, and explorative musicality.
